Small town America. A baseball game on a warm July morning. A boy is running through the outfield. Suddenly, he slips and falls in a cascade of red. After he slides to a stop in a pool of blood and gore, he finds himself looking at a human head. He screams. The terror in tiny Blacksville, Pennsylvania, has begun. Can newspaper reporter John Reynolds discover who, or what, is killing the people of Blacksville? Will he be able to overcome the effects of his nervous breakdown? Can he trust those around him? Will they trust him? Has he found love in the little town? Will the killer take her? What Reynolds finds in reality is more terrifying than anything he imagined in his darkest moments. Will he survive?

This is easily one of the best werewolf themed books I ever read bar none and I've read almost every werewolf themed book offered on the Kindle reader. The book is fast paced. Yes the author has a very annoying habit of jumping from past to present at whim and it almost destroys the story and helps it only slightly. The author should have arranged the story differently because all the time jumping made the narrative harder to follow. Also the author used a lot of he said, she said, he did and she did when multiple characters were in play which made for more confusion. When you must suspend reading the story to figure out which he or she did or is doing what it breaks the spell you are no longer fully immersed in the story and the narrative suffers. So if I found two huge flaws in the delivery of this story why did I still give it FIVE STARS!

I gave this story FIVE STARS because; despite the flaws in crafting the story the actual narrative itself is first rate. The story is fun, the people are realistic and fully fleshed out. The plot is tight and their is hardly any filler at all. You quickly grow to care about the characters and understand them on deep levels. The words used are descriptive and rich in meaning. The place feels real and it is done with an economy of words I find remarkable. The story telling is fine. The werewolves are believable even lovable in some instances.

What makes this book special is the plot twists are just awesome. People die that you did not fully expect to die. I found myself grieving for a few of the characters when they died they had become so real to me. I love a book written so well you get invested in the lives they live. I could identify with every werewolf in the book. The story never disappointed. I know when I love a werewolf book because; I start watching the percent left before I finish the book and dread fills me as I approach the end! I so totally wanted this book to go on with the story as it ended. I will so totally be here to but the next book in what I hope is a LIGHT MOON Series because; oh yeah I'm proudly HOOKED ON THIS STORY!

After reading this book, its a great read

Worth the buy on

5 Stars but its bed time randy....
BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON is such an exciting read. Once I started it I was drawn in by not only the gripping story; but, by the references to Fayette County, Pennsylvania! It was so much fun to read a book and actually know the area to which the author refers. Mr. Kerr's main character, John Reynolds, is actually someone I think would be fun to know! I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel to this book!
The problem with writing a traditional [vampire/zombie/werewolf/serial killer/etc] tale these days is that the mythos of most of these creatures are so ingrained in us that "traditional" often translates to boring. If you slap a howling werewolf on the cover readers know what your bad guy is and spending two hundred pages with your characters still thinking "What could it be" can easily become tedious rather than a delightfully gory romp through a dark night. This is the most blaring problem with By the Light of the Moon which stars a paranoid newspaper reporter, his girlfriend and a small town cop squaring off against a vicious, strong, mysterious creature who gets really hungry every full moon.
It also doesn't help that the best (and sometimes only real) descriptions come from the characters telling each other how poignant that scene is, or how relevant this fact is. By the Light of the Moon is not a bad book. Kerr's strength is his characterization and he recognizes how to strike all the dramatic moments. It's greatest flaw is doing nothing new with the mythos and lacking an atmosphere to make up for it. Given it's higher small press price tag, it's not the best option for public collections, but werewolf fans, especially the die hard werewolf-monster-killer fans will dig it.

Contains violence and language
I don't normally read mystery novels but I was hooked from page one. Can't wait for Larry's next book.
ok
Great characters and a good storyline. Like to see a sequel, maybe they all have to get back together and fight off Novak's werewolf sister who's out for revenge, or some other scenario!
