“Fresh and truthful reflections on modern masculinity...” - Vice Magazine
Blood-brotherhoods and similar rites have been employed by men to mark friendships and alliances for thousands of years. Evidence of the practice can be found in the lore, literature and recorded history of most cultures-from Norse and Celtic mythologies to the tribes of Africa, Australia and the South Pacific, to the fiction of Jack London and Mark Twain. This survey of blood-brotherhood rites is a toolbox for the imagination, containing a wealth of research about blood-brotherhood myths and practices from a wide variety of cultures and time periods, including excerpted texts and original translations by Nathan F. Miller.
The second revised edition of Blood-Brotherhood from [DISSONANT HUM] was written for a general male audience. Blood-Brotherhood and Other Rites of Male Alliance remains the most comprehensive cross-cultural survey of blood-brotherhood myths and traditions currently available.

Interesting and well researched. Was actually hoping for Jack to go deeper into speculation or the importance of such rituals in modernity, but all in all very enjoyable.Product details

BloodBrotherhood and Other Rites of Male Alliance eBook Jack Donovan Nathan F Miller Reviews
The authors have a bit of chip on their shoulders. They go out of their way to try and explain why blood brothers are no-homo and that anyone who tries to eroticize the blood brother bond is engaging in wishful thinking at best. However, the authors go through great lengths to de-eroticize such bonds that they actually do them a disservice. They apply the same cultural biases that they rail against to the situations ... just from a different point-of-view. Even if you are not an "androphile", the information appears to be good, eroticized or not.
Good book!
Absolutely critical book to read for better understanding the concepts of fraternity and male bonds in all societies. Will make you look to and evaluate your own friends and bonds in a new light.
This book and its extensively researched topic brought new insight on not only the rites of Brotherhood among men, but also the rites of manhood and what it means to be a man in this new century. It helped bridge a few gaps for me personally, in my own relationships with the few men I consider to be 'Blood Brothers' and the reasons why these relationships have endured, in the past and the present. Bravo, Jack and Nathan for bringing such a topic to the forefront in an age where men have been all but emasculated in our society. You are the voice of a select few men who will pave the way for the future of masculinity for heterosexual and homosexual men. I applaud you twice.
The cultural stories were what kept me interested. Blood brotherhood while indeed interesting suffers from the fact that blood brotherhood is so darn similar everywhere that the info on them begins to blend together, if it wasn't for the stories I probably would of rated it less.
Nice book what an original proposal an historic and anthropological study about the brotherhood rituals that follow men during the whole era.
What's interesting about it is that Jack Donovan covers all the globe; passing through nordic mythology, aborigines of Oceania and african clans. A nice ride, definitely.
Very interesting and informative reading. Jack Donovan does drop knowledge and will read and read more of his stuff. Delivery was prompt and grat as usual YESSSSSSSSSS
Interesting and well researched. Was actually hoping for Jack to go deeper into speculation or the importance of such rituals in modernity, but all in all very enjoyable.
