A short, sweet gay romance about new beginnings, from the author of "If Not for Charlie"...

Indiana native Kieran Flynn moved to Southern California with two hopes to escape the cold, and to find some success in advertising. But four months later he's still struggling to understand computer software, his home is an apartment over someone's garage, and he hasn't found a single way to stand out from the crowd. The only time of day he truly enjoys is lunchtime, when he leaves the confines of the office and soaks up some sun near the beach. Nothing looks promising. There's no success on the horizon... until a half-crazed guy comes running outside yelling, "Help me! Please help me!"

That's Kieran's introduction to "the soup man," a gorgeous cafe owner named Ryan Dunn, who'll quickly become the most important person Kieran's ever met - and will teach him that when one thing in your life is perfect, the rest of your life might just follow suit.

4.5 stars (rounded up)
What a sweet and gentle romance this one turned out to be. I feel like this could have been longer. Much longer. With the time jump in the middle filled in some. But mostly that's just me being greedy. I did blink a few times at the time leap in the middle of the book but 30 seconds later I was 100% back into the story.

This likely won't move you to tears. It probably won't go to the top of your "all time favorites" shelf either. There's no on-the-page sex so it's not going to get your motor running. BUT, I bet it'll put a big ole fat smile on your face and warm your heart right on up!

This would be a great short story for anyone who wants a quick, gentle, pick-me-up type romance. It's also easy on the wallet.

Recommended!
As a soup fan myself, I found this story very sweet, homey, and endearing. I really believe that a little bit of good soup (of any kind) goes a long way to getting one to one's solution. The love in this short was warm and gentle. The characters are interesting and there was enough draw to make you want to find out how it ends. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a short story of romance of the man variety, needs a little bit of inspiration, and hunters for soup. Haha. This story surely made me hungry for a good bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup.
Some stories don't do well being short, and this was one. It was basically a mish mash of bits & pieces put together in the same general area and called a story. The time jumps were mind-numbing - you can't tell how long between their first date & their first time being intimate - and so were Ryan's conversation jumps. Like when they were discussing siblings, and Ryan blurts out, "There was somebody." Somebody who? That did what? Oh, you mean an ex-BF. There were several conversations that were like that. And because of the lack of definitive time passage, it kind of felt as if things moved a little fast between them. But that was the only thing I felt, as there was no chemistry between Ryan & Kieran. A lot of that I'm sure had to do with lack of character development and background information; when you don't know who the characters really are, it's hard to root for an HEA when you're not really sure what brought them together to begin with. I would've like to have known how they got into their respective careers, and how Ryan was able to own a fairly popular little restaurant by 30. Didn't help that there was no excitement whatsoever, and not just because there's no sex. Note the title never does come to make sense. Maybe it was supposed to be "unforgettable soup"?
